Tao Boba

Boba, espresso and warm taiyaki three blocks up from the train hall

A small tea and coffee bar on 17th Street between Union Station and the Commons, doing milk teas, fruit teas, espresso drinks and filled taiyaki to order. Matcha and ube creme brulee turn up in most people's regular rotation, and the macarons are worth adding. It stays open to eight or nine, later than most coffee in this part of downtown, which makes it useful after dinner as well as before work. Counter service, a handful of seats, mostly a walk-out order.

Why go. The only proper boba counter in walking distance of Union Station.

Get the taiyaki warm rather than boxed; it does not survive the walk back to the hotel.
