Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ

Grill-your-own Japanese barbecue by Union Station, with an all-you-can-eat option.

Gyu-Kaku, the big Japanese yakiniku chain, opened its first Colorado room in March 2019 in a 3,000-square-foot corner of the Union Station neighborhood at 18th and Wewatta. Each table has a smokeless grill; you order plates of marinated short rib, harami skirt steak, pork belly and vegetables and cook them yourself, which is why groups love it and why dinner takes two hours. There is a premium all-you-can-eat menu daily until 8pm, a happy hour that runs from noon to 6:30 every day, and a note on the site that they do not accept mobile pay.

Why go. It is the group dinner where the cooking is the entertainment, five minutes from the train hall.

Go on a weekday between noon and 4:30 for the lunch menu and the noon-to-6:30 happy hour; weekend evenings mean a wait without a reservation.
