The Pig & The Sprout

Half the menu is pork, half is vegan, and both sides are serious.

Open since June 2016 in the ground floor of the tower behind Union Station, The Pig & The Sprout is built on one idea: a carnivore and a vegan should be able to eat well at the same table. So the menu splits down the middle, green chile poutine on one side, plant-based plates on the other, and the bar leans on a maple bourbon old fashioned. Weekend brunch has bottomless mimosas and a long Bloody Mary list. 'Flip flops or suits' is the house line, and it is accurate; the room is polished but nobody is dressed up.

Why go. The easiest place near Union Station to feed a mixed table of meat eaters and vegans without a compromise.

Saturday brunch is the busiest service; a weekday lunch on the patio side is quiet and quick.
