The Oxford opened in 1891 to serve travelers arriving at Union Station a block away, and it has never closed. Frank Edbrooke designed it; the 1930s brought the art deco Cruise Room bar, which is reason enough to stay. Rooms are antique-heavy and comfortable, Urban Farmer is the steakhouse on the corner, and the spa is a real one. It is the LoDo hotel with the most stories, most of them true.

Why go. A hundred and thirty years of Denver hospitality with a martini bar in the basement.

Ask about the ghost tour; and drink at the Cruise Room whether or not you are staying.
