The Cruise Room
An Art Deco martini bar open since the day after Prohibition ended.
The Cruise Room opened in the Oxford Hotel on December 6, 1933, the day after repeal, and has not closed since. The room was modeled on a lounge aboard the Queen Mary: a long, narrow, red-lit space with chrome trim and carved panels of drinking toasts from around the world (the German one was quietly removed during the war). Martinis are the point; the bar's daily 5–6pm 'Captain's Call' is a bartender's-choice pour for a set price. It stays small and grown-up even on game nights.
Why go. Denver's oldest bar, and one of the few that looks the part.
No reservations and only a few dozen seats; go on a weeknight right at 4pm or after 9pm, and check the hotel's calendar for the quarterly burlesque nights if you want the room loud.
