K Contemporary
Doug Kacena's ambitious LoDo gallery, a block from the MCA
Doug Kacena opened K Contemporary in 2017 in the 1412 Wazee building, a short walk from the Museum of Contemporary Art, and it has since become the LoDo gallery that gets written up in the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times. The program leans conceptual and often political (Shawn Huckins's theatrical paintings are a house staple), and the gallery shows at Zona Maco, Untitled Miami and The Armory Show, which is unusual for Denver. In 2025 it added a second space on Canyon Road in Santa Fe. Shows turn over every six weeks or so; admission is free and the staff will actually talk to you.
Why go. It is the most serious commercial gallery in LoDo and free to walk into.
Pair it with the MCA two blocks west on a Saturday afternoon, when both are open; check the site for opening receptions, which are the liveliest nights.
